MorningSong!

Morningsong is a dynamic, vibrant community choir which sings inspiring songs and harmonies from different cultures around the world in a friendly, informal and joyful environment. There are no auditions, and singers do not have to read music because all songs and harmonies are taught by ear.

Our goal is to have fun, learn and sing music from other countries as well as our own, make new friends and leave endorphed out of our minds! We sing exciting and wide-ranging music from among the world's most powerful harmony-singing traditions: songs from South Africa, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, folk music from western and eastern Europe (Corsica, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Ukraine, Russia etc), music from the UK, Appalachian folk songs, American spirituals and gospel songs, blues and bluegrass songs, and songs from the Pacific islands. Singing songs in different languages is hard work, so we try to keep a balance by singing many songs in English and some from the classical tradition (e.g. Mozart and Bortniansky). The challenges and achievements are richly rewarding.

There is an emphasis on learning about harmony and getting the confidence to know when, how and what to sing in harmony. Once a song has been mastered, singers are encouraged to explore and add their own harmonies. This leads into all sorts of mischief and mayhem but it is great fun.

We mainly sing a cappella, that is, unaccompanied by instruments. We are a non-denominational singing group, although beautiful songs from many religions enter our repertoire.

Singers are not expected to make a commitment to come every week. For this reason we are not a performance choir as yet. We just sing for the joy of singing rather than performing.

WAITING LIST. Please note that we are currently spilling over with women singers and now have a waiting list.

Men singers are still on the wanted list.
