What is community singing?

Jane gets the choir jumping! Community singing groups are based on fun and inclusion. Morningsong is run like this: community members independently enter the venue from all different walks of life. They stand in a circle and begin some warm up vocal exercises. The leader guides them through some vocal technique and soon the group is singing as one. Then comes the part-singing. Beautiful harmonies resonate through traditional music, home spun improvisations, the songs of other cultures and amazing spontaneous harmony. The variety is enormous. The groups are all about singing together and creating wonderful harmonies, rather than performing.

The social aspect of community singing is very important to most of us. Singers are encouraged to meet afterwards for coffee or lunch - entirely optional of course. However, some people just want to be anonymous or are very busy and we all understand that.

If you run a home or small business, you are welcome to bring any promotional business cards or fliers to share. A singing session break provides the opportunity for a cuppa and a chat.

All voices are valued. Morningsong has singers whose experiences ranges from those who have not sung since Grade 2 and professional singers. The variety of voices and musical skills is enormous. It really does not matter about the training or the experience, community choirs work spectacularly well because there are so many different kinds of voices which all resonate together in a beautiful, harmonic whole.
